NEW SEASON HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED FOR CITY

Tuesday 27th September 2011

Club Match Maker Mike Gibbons phone is beginning to ring as clubs are calling City for help on their shows as potential matches are made. With some bouts been turned down due to no boxers cards, Mike has finally accepted some bouts for next week for 2 of  his boxers.

Chelsey Arnell and Brandon Stead both in action at the Townend Farm Working Mans Club, in Sunderland. Arnell will face the older Helen Robson (Hylton Castle), Robson will be making her debut since joining Hylton in May this year and is said to be up for her first contest. Meanwhile Arnell comes into this one on the back of some good sparring, and what she is giving in age she is gaining in experience.

Meanwhile clubmate Brandon Stead has a tough test to start his season against a lad that is born out of a top club in Spennymoor ABC. A club that has a history of producing champions lines up Alan Comby. Only losing 3 from his 9 outings while Stead boasts only 1 defeat in 6. This will be a cracking contest as both lads are looking at the potential championships in the new year.

"Both boxers are up for this. They both have worked hard during the closed season and are ready for their first bouts of the new season." Said Mike Gibbons.

Paul Dolan and Dave Kinsley will be the coaches making the trip to the North East with the boxers. City will be keen to kick the new season off with a double strike.

COACHES RAISE OVER £1000 FOR THE CLUB

Tuesday 27th September 2011

City of Hull Coaches Mike Gibbons, Dave Kinsley, Paul Dolan, Bob Beautyman and Danny Thompson have raised a combined figure of what is believed to be around £1150.00 for the club through growing their beards.

The marathon beard grow started the beginning of August and runs until tonight (27th September), almost all the coaches have been going mad as their beards became unkempt and have fallen out of favour with their partners due to their shabby appearances.

The beards however will be shaven tonight after training as the five of them return to their normal selves

CITY YOUNGSTERS IMPRESS AT YORKSHIRE SQUAD

 Monday 26th September 2011

As many as 171 boxers turned out for what was one of the biggest Yorkshire Squad turnouts of recent years. Headed up by Ken Waddington, Brendan Warburton, Jason Gledhill, Keith Palmer and Tom Gilbert. The group was split into various catagories, Seniors, Females, Juniors and Schools. City had a minimum of at least 1 boxer in each.helsey Arnell, Natasha Dolan, Alex Sutton, Jim Bob Dixon, Thomas Arnell, Ryan Gibbons, Brandon Stead and Callum Turner all made a good impression at the weekend when they made the trip to Mexborough, in particular the impressive 'Empress Ballroom' home of Ernie Oxers Amateur Boxing Club. An incredible venue that had it all fqor the kids including a boxing store which stocked the latest boxing named brands.

Young Callum Turner did well although there was no one as light him, still he got to show his skills even though it was against a heavier sparring partner. Natasha Dolan stood strong against some class girls, her boxing skills are still very new and she is learning all the time, however she gave a brilliant account of herself.

Chelsey Arnell sparred with the more experienced Sara Tabisum (Bradford College) and Katie Bulmer (St Pauls). Chelsey displayed her skills very well and impressed the St Pauls female star.

"She has a cracking back hand and nice skills. She will do well" Said Bulmer.

"We had issues around Chelsey's confidence going into this squad session. However since she has come back from Nottingham where she successfully passed her Level 1 personal fitness Instructors course she has become very confident and it showed on Sunday" Said Coach Mike Gibbons.

Alex Sutton represented City in the Senior Section and looked in superb form ahead of his Championship bid in a fortnight. Tom Arnell, Jim Bob Dixon, Ryan Gibbons and Brandon Stead were all put through their paces against some skillful lads. All came through with flying colours.

"They all did really well. We are very proud of them. Some good sparring against some experienced kids. None of them looked out of their depth. Its good experience" Said Assistant Coach Paul Dolan.

Yorkshire ABA are looking for squads to face the North West Counties, Germany and Derbyshire as well as Ireland. The City boxers await for the call.
