WENDY NOMINATES HUBBY FOR TORCH BEARER
They say behind every successful man is a good woman, well in this case behind every Head Coach there is a woman rolling her eyes. Wendy Gibbons wife of Mike Gibbons has nominated her beloved for prestigous Olympic Torch Bearing honor, and if successful will give Mike a once in a lifetime chance to carry the olympic torch.
Wendy told us: "All our coaches and volunteers give so much to the club, however I see what Mike does even when the gym is shut. His phone is non-stop with clubs, he litrally gives the club 24 hours a day 7 days a week, even when he is not at the gym he is always on stand by."
"He is a marvelous man that puts the club before his own needs. He started coaching back in the early 2000 or even 2001, but since founding City he has grown to love his boxing. I am litrally a boxing widow, but hey if you cant beat em..."
"Mike deserves this award, the hours he puts into the bigger picture (not just the boxing) but the centre itself, the community cafe, he has assisted to promote a Dance group, helped give Muay Thai Kick Boxing a come, basically he gives it all he has and then some. To see him recognised for his efforts in this way would be rewarding." Said Wendy.
Mike Gibbons is said to be touched by the gesture: "Unbelievable, to think of me and to put me forward is recognition enough on its own, whether I am selected or not. Wendy does remind me to reel my kneck in at times, she constantly reminds me not to do too much. But always supports me and is there for me when times are tough."
"I am truly grateful for the thought" smiled Mike.
