"I wont reveal too much but I have watched a few of the DVD's featuring the opponents of the boys, I am not over concerned by what the 3 of them face, however we need to be careful as the the championships can sometimes cause upsets, it would be nice to book all 3 into the Semi Finals" smiled Gibbons.

HEARTBRAKE FOR DOLAN AS SHE LEAVES THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Natasha Dolan's dream of a National Title is put on hold for now as the 14 year old left the competition at the hands of arch rival Charlotte Jarvis (Bridlington) who won by Majority decision at the St Pauls gym show on Thursday.

Despite a late rally, and 2 points off her scorecard Jarvis was able to still claw the win.

CITY COACHES PASS LEVEL 2 BADGE !

Congratulations to City of Hull coaches Dave Kinsley and Paul Dolan and both successfully passing their ABA Coaching Level 2 courses and therefore becoming Full ABA Coaches, Head Coach Mike Gibbons said this marks the development with in the club both in the ring and out.

"Both coaches have worked hard since joining us, both have picked up a lot of experience both in the club and at shows. I am delighted for them both that they are now level 2 coaches. This is important to us because it demonstrates our drive and passion for personal development both in the ring and out. Both coaches have applied themselves and have been rewarded" Said Gibbons.

DOLAN LOOKS FORWARD TO HER SEMI FINAL

Natasha Dolan is no stranger to her opponent, the two have locked horns twice previous and on both occassions Charlotte Jarvis has got the nod from the judges, even though some thought that the second time they met Dolan was unlucky not to get the decision.

Come Thursday 15th December at the St Pauls gym in the Market Place in Hull the two will go head to head for a third time, this time their is a slight different feeling about it. This time its for a place in the National Schoolgirl Championship final.

Dolan has trained extremely hard for her contest and is in very confident mood.

"She has worked hard in the gym, she see's this a real opportunity to put things straight and book herself a place in the final in Manchester." said dad and coach Paul.

THOMPSON JOINS CITY

George Thompson has joined City it was confirmed today. The former Hull Saints boxer met his squad mates tonight and completed his first training session. Thompson comes with a 18 bout record and is hoping to achieve great things at City.

The club is said to be very pleased that Thompson has joined City and looks to develop the good work Hull Saints have already done.

"He is a quality lad, a real grafter in the gym. We hope he likes it here at the club and I am sure he will achieve everything he is striving for. We are confident we can help him achieve these goals" Said the club.

KINSLEY IN 3RD SHOWDOWN

Josh Kinsley is set for his 3rd showdown with rival Aiden Kelly at the SYD Ringside Show on December 2nd, the last time they met Kinsley boxed well and romped home to a unanimous points win a result he intends to keep and repeat in just over a weeks time.

"Josh is very focussed, he is training extremely hard and is applying himself daily. If effort in the gym wins bouts, then Josh could very well be on his way to a win" Smiled the camp.

SUTTON EYES NATIONAL TITLE

Alex Sutton was told today by the club that he is just 1 fight away from a dream shot at the National Title, he is due to box against the Royal Navy on December 3rd in Everton and a win will secure him a place in the Final, however the bout will not be simple according to coach Mike Gibbons.

"The lad he is due to face is a tough lad, we have footage of him so we can do our homework and we are already working on his flaws. Alex will need to be on top of his game if he is to upset the apple cart in Liverpool, I believe in him and after his last display I can not see why he can not go on and win this title."

GIBBONS FRUSTRATED AS YET ANOTHER BOUT FALLS THROUGH

Ryan Gibbons has had his return put on hold as his bout in Everton was cancelled 2 hours ahead of the youngster making the trip to Merseyside. The reasons were that Everton Red Triangle has double matched their boy with a club that had 3 other boxers on the card and they could not afford to cancel them out.

Gibbons was looking forward to his showdown in Liverpool, however this was not to be. It also showed later that the said club his opponent was doubled matched with was Burmantofts, who only had the one lad on, the one that boxed Ryan's scheduled opponent.

"We dont mind lads being pulled out at last minute if clubs have a doubt, but to tell us the lie they told us makes me cringe. I am honestly surprised at ERT as they have always been okay with us. Now our lad is disappointed, but still he will feature again shortly we hope." Said Father and Coach Mike Gibbons.

FRUSTRATED ARNELL LOSES ON POINTS

Female Senior Chelsey Arnell felt frustrated following her points defeat to Charlen Milligan (Halifax Star) even though some felt she may have done enough to edge the decision. A promising start by the Halifax girl forced Arnell on to her back foot  in the early stages of the contest. Despite the slow start, Arnell eased herself back into things and in to contention. Pretty much having the full round to herself in the final round, Arnell was hopeful however all 3 judges saw the Milligan the winner, there was no complaints from the City camp.

DIXON CAN NOT WAIT FOR FIGHT NIGHT

City hot shot Jim Bob Dixon is said to be very focussed according his Head Coach Mike Gibbons ahead of his contest with Uhmad Ahmad (Unity). Both lads are undefeated and this bout is destined to be an explosive affair. Dixon has shown so much commitment in the gym and considered to be extremely fit and ready for this test.

"Jim Bob is very focussed and I would say he is extremely fit, he want to get it on with Ahmad and relishes the thought of being back in action" Said Gibbons.

He is expecting to take a decent amount of support with him to Unity's first show of the season.

CITY YOUNGSTER BOUT CALLED OFF

Talented Liam Gibbons was let down when his opponent's coach failed to bring his card which meant his 38kg showdown did not go ahead. Gibbons was due to box Nico Leivar (Robin Hood) however Leivar camp had failed to bring his medical card which consequently meant the fight was cancelled. Gibbons was left in a state of disappointment and despite his heavy following that came to cheer him on, was having to watch the boxing from his ringside seat.

"Mistakes happen, their coach approached me and apologised he was clearly embarrassed about the situation. The bout never happened. Liam was gutted as was his support that paid good money to watch him." Said Head Coach Mike Gibbons.

CITY TRIO LOOK FOR WINS

This week City of Hull trio are on the hunt for their first wins of the 2011/12 season as 2 travel to Scarborough while the other travels to the west side of the city as he features on the Kingston ABC Show.

First up City Senior doubles Alex Sutton and Ashley Rosenburg are both in action on Thursday when they make the trip to the seaside coast of Scarborough, both have testing opponents. Sutton has Joe Simpson (Hyltoncastle) while Rosenburg looks to tackle Paul Gordon from York.

Both bouts are expected to be explosive and both lads have prepared themselves well for their fights.

"Both of them have been very committed and shown an excellent mentality going into their bouts on Thursday. Quite a few of us are making the trip to Scarborough" Said Head Coach Mike Gibbons.

Both Danny Thompson and Dave Kinsley will be working the corners of both boxers.

Meanwhile Junior and impressive puncher Liam Gibbons is action at the Kingston ABC gym on Friday. Gibbons faces the skillful Nico "Rocky" Leivars who makes the trip from Mansfield. The Mansfield team know they have a tricky task on their hand as Gibbons has only dropped one marginal majority points defeat to Joe Egan. A contest which Gibbons gave Egan a count in the second round but was edged out on points. Since that contest Gibbons has gone on to record 6 back to back wins giving him the best Junior record in the club. This however will prove to be a real test for the youngster.

"We made the match as its now time for Liam to step up a class. With wins over some good lads already we need to keep his development going and stepping up from 36 to 39kg Liam knows his opponents will be hitting harder than his past opponents. Leivars poses a threat however I can honestly say this, I have never seen Liam so focussed for a contest. He is really up for this" Said father and coach Mike Gibbons.

Both trips City welcome the following, so if your thinking of going there is 3 classic contests not to be missed and the lads would welcome your support.

SUTTON IN TITLE SHOT

Alex Sutton has been handed a real opportunity by his club by being entered into the Senior Novice Championships, a championship that City of Hull ABC have won back to back for the last 2 straight seasons.

Sutton has only suffered at the hands of one boxer in the last 2 seasons will be looking to build on his ever developing career and earn himself a Yorkshire Championship Vest and by dropping down a weight division to Bantamweight his coaching team are confident that Sutton will be one of the biggest in his catagory.

Sutton has applied himself well to his training and has real focus on what lies ahead.

"My preparation for this I have been training twice a day, starting the day with a 5 mile run, committing my diet by eating 5 nutritional small meals a day and training on the night. I am looking to progress as far as I can and not just have my eye on the Yorkshire title I am looking to go as far as my ability will take me"

Part of his preparation for this showdown complies of a strict training routine, he has had the help of 2 times Senior Novice Champion Charlie Payton.

"Alex is superb, his attitude to this has been 100% focussed its exciting times for him and the club" Said Bob Beautyman.

"Alex has been working towards this for 2 years he has never given anything less than 101%, he is in for a good season" Added Danny Thompson.

More on his progress follows...

A brand new batch of talented boxers are set to shine this coming season according to club sources. The gym is full of young hopefuls that will be pulling on a city shirt for the first time.

"We have plenty of young kids, both boys and girls that will enforce and enrich an already strong stable of boxers. They are all get on so well and push each other. We are really looking forward to the start of a new season"

The day will consist of a bouncy castle, jumble sale, tombola, raffle and a demonstration of mixed martial arts. HEAD COACH CALLS TO SQUAD

Mike Gibbons has called the boxing squad in to have a discussion around some commitment and attitudes to some boxers. Generally City Head Coach is happy with the progress however is concerned that not all of the squad is giving the pre-season training their best efforts.

"We had a cracking season last season, but this time last year we were all back training hard. There is a section of the squad that yet to be regular at training which is not how we do things at the club. We need to address this and let the small minority know that if you dont put the work in at the gym, you wont be pulling on a City kit this season." Said Gibbons.

"We dont want to sound hard on anyone, and we appreciate that sometimes things crop up. But generally we have a superb squad that is hard working and committed. I feel that this is a small case of pre-season lazyness and we need to sort it out before the first bell rings out"

Mike's concerns come ahead of a season where the club is hoping for Titles in the Schools and Seniors and potentially in the female championships also. His mirrors the opinion of his coaching team that efforts could be better if the club is to continue its succesful journey into the new 2011/12 season.

"We have champions already, thats fact. But we have the potential to win much more titles. We have a very competitive junior squad that really impressed last season. Its their turn to shine this year. Also we have some green shoots coming through elsewhere in the gym, some of these will be making their debuts. Its good times at City, we dont want to sound glum, we just need to check ourselves and a little housekeeping before embarking on what I believe will be great season".

TONY HINDLEY JOINS CITY !

Top boxing coach Tony Hindley has joined City of Hull the club can confirm today. Even though it is on a part time basis, Gibbons is said to be thrilled by the appointment and is confident that his former coach will settle well into the role of boxers mentor.

Hindley will work closely with the carded boxers to help with their development by running a seperate session to build on the current technique already well in place by the coaching staff at City.

"Tony has a wealth of experience and we are thrilled to have him on board. The boxers will learn and benefit from his experience. As a squad I was hoping to run a Sunday session at the club, where we can work on technique as well as enjoy a structured training session. Tony will come in and run this session for me. Its both suitable for the club and the boxers. I can see things working out very well indeed" Said Gibbons.

Tony Hindley will take up his position in July when the pre season picks up ready for another explosive season at City.

"The club is a good club, the lads are fit, very fit. If I can help make a difference with these boxers then even better" Said Hindley.

CITY TO DON NEW COLOURS ?

City of Hull ABC may be wearing new colours for the new season early reports suggest that they are binning the traditional red, white and blue strip and going for a black and amber or even gold strip. This is due to the ever increasing squad and the expensive solution of kitting kids out with a red strip and a blue kit is not cost effective.

"We have to look at this in a business way. 2 kits at £65 each equals £130 per boxer exclusing the headguard and gloves. We can kit boxers out in set colour i.e Black with a selected choice of trim for around £35 its a no brainer. However we need to pass this through the committee first. It is highly probable that the squad will have a new look to them in the new season" finished Gibbons.

CORNEY RETURNS TO SAINTS

Lyndon Corney has left City to return to his former club Hull Saints following a brief discussion with Head Coach Mike Gibbons. Corney who has transferred to the club in the later stages of last season has been inactive with the club and following discussions it was agreed that Corney will return to his former club immediatly.

"Obviously we are disappointed that Lyndon has not found what he was looking for at the club, but we always have maintained that if a boxer wishes to move to another club we will not stand his their way. We wish him the very best of luck" Said Gibbons.

12 NEW FACES TO APPEAR IN THE CITY SQUAD FOR NEXT SEASON?

The club has 12 new faces that want to be considered for the squad for next season which will take the squad numbers into the mid 30's, this is not including new senior boxers that are knocking at the door. Next season will see the return of the existing squad plus these new additions.

"Its a picture of where we are going as a club. Incredible numbers cram into the gym on a nightly basis, we are thrilled to have them here and some nice talen is emerging. Our junior squad will be bolstered with these new additions and we also have a superb academy that is generating new talent all the time." Said Gibbons.

CITY QUARTET PERFORM A FULL SWEEP !

CITY of Hull Amateur Boxing Club are toasting four more victories from youngsters at their club.

Competing across two shows, one in Sheffield and one in west Hull, wins came the way of Kai Gibson, Liam Gibbons, Jim Bob Dixon and Josh Kinsley.

Mike Gibbons, head coach of the club, said: "All four lads worked so well.

"My tribute to the coaches Danny Thompson, Dave Kinsley, Paul Dolan, Steve Pollard and Bob Beautyman for their commitment.

"As a unit we have proved that we are moving in the right direction."

First up, 11-year-old Gibson and 12-year-old Gibbons came away with superb wins over tough opponents from the Steel City Gym in Sheffield.

Gibson (44kg), who won on points, beat Lucky Price who was going into the contest with three wins from four.

Gibson scored well behind his jab and set up his back hand to the head in the three-round fight.

Fitness was the key and by the third round Gibson was on top and Price was on the back foot.

Gibbons (35kg) recorded his seventh win in eight bouts when he beat much-favoured Finley Hobson (Steel City).

Hobson boasted a four-win record out of six contests and started the bout the brighter.

But Gibbons settled and found his range well to take control with some fine body shots as he claimed a unanimous points win.

Dixon, 14, and 13-year-old Kinsley were both in action at the Kingston ABC show.

Dixon (49kg) was first on the bill when he faced Manchester-based Brandon Hartley (Sandygate).

Hartley was a year older and came to the fight on the back of two wins, but Dixon looked unstoppable when he found his range, sending a barrage of shots when pinning his opponent.

In a one-sided fight, Dixon's fast hands and accurate punching won him the fight on a unanimous points verdict.

Kingsley (39kg) added his third win out of four contests when he outboxed the skilful Jacob Slaten (Hunslet).

Slaten's tight defensive skills and swift footwork made this assignment for Kingsley a little awkward, but in the second round the Hull talent found his range and picked his shots well on his way to a points win.

CITY BOXERS PERFORM SEASON BEST!

With Thomas Arnell, Callum Turner, Ryan Gibbons, Jim Bob Dixon, Kai Gibson, Josh Kinsley, Liam Gibbons, Brandon Stead and Danny Little all winning their bouts last night, City boss Mike Gibbons was proud as punch when he said this was the seasons best perforances.

"I am so proud of absolutley everyone last night. Ryan Clarkson, Natasha Dolan and Cameron Noman dropping margional points decisions, but still gave it their everything in 3 quality performances. The other 9 boxers chalking up the wins, with Danny Little becoming the new Yorkshire Belt Champion. I am sure I am speaking for everying involved at the club, we as proud as punch to deliver a season best performance like, buzzing" smiled Gibbons.

City of Hull Amateur Boxing Club could find themselves occupying a brand new, purpose built building as early as 2013 says Mike Gibbons following his early talks with Hull City Council officials.

City are close to proposing a new site (very local to its current location) where the building will boast a modern cafe, dance studio, cardio room, offices and meeting rooms, reception area as well as purpose built gym on the upper level. There is suggestion that the club will be a pavillion too, housing football and rugby teams where there will be a social club bar facility to hold functions.

Mike Gibbons did state that plans are in the early stages as funding bids are still to be written however, the political side which is normally the stumbling block in these things seem to be in full favour of the development.

"We have a funding partner working with City of Hull Sport & Community Group which is the company that manages the current base for City, we are aiming for £500,000.00 to build the development, we have a Architect working with us based on a no win no fee basis. We have gone over the ideas and spoken to Building Schools for the Future (BFS) who's land our development involves and it has been met with enthusiasm, also the council appears to be in full support given the past work City of Hull Sport & Community Group has done in its current building" Said Gibbons.

"We are very positive we expect talks to develop over the coming weeks, we have our deadlines to fall into but I am very confident we have the right team here to make this work and North Hull Area can have a superb facility as well as City of Hull ABC having a very nice head quarters."

Sutton is said to be devistated by the illness but concedes there is no way he could of competed with it. His coach told us "He is gutted he wont feature, I think this is the first time Alex has not competed on a City of Hull show and naturally every boxer wants to be in the squad, but this is the situation we find ourselves in, he will rest up now and be back ahead of a busy season next season!"

"Ash is a grafter. He loves his training, I had the pleasure to work with him back in our Hull Saints days, then when I left to set up City, he moved to St Pauls which suprised me as he had some good training and sparring partners at Saints and if he did want to move then we had one or two options at City. Since then though our senior squad has increased again with Danny Little, Jamie Day and Jonny Kershaw not to mention the up and coming lads too so Ash is in good company. We are suprised he has chosen to leave St Pauls as it is a great club, while at the same time we are thrilled he has joined us" Said Gibbons.

KINSLEY IMPRESSES AWAY FROM HOME

Josh Kinsley was in explosive form away from home when he made the trip to Crewe last night and coming away with an impressive display that earned him all 3 judges nods by winning a unanimous points decision over Reece Gilbert (Five Towns).

"It is s benchmark for where we are going and developing as a club. Both lads have had to learn their trade as a coach from scratch more so Bob than Danny, but they have picked alot up over the last couple of years and developed as coaches. Their time and efforts have been truly rewarded and the club was happy to re-invest in them to give them an opportunity to move up again and we will continue to do so."

"I am buzzing for the pair of them" he finished.

DOUBLE DEFEAT FOR CITY YOUNGSTERS

Natasha Dolan and Kai Gibson both lost thier bouts on the Bridlington CYP show last week. Both boxers were beaten on points Head Coach Mike Gibbons commented on the bouts.

"Natasha struggled to get started to be honest. She was not her usual self, we feel that the large home support her opponent played a key factor as well as the Bridlington Spa itself played a key role in the nerves getting to her. Its good experience and she will be back when she faces a return against Rachel Stephenson (Hetton Town) next month"

"Kai had it difficult in many ways, his first bout away from home against an unknown lad who was not only a southpaw but a very skillful spoiler that closed Kai down and didnt give him chance to work. A difficult night for him but again like Natasha it was good experience"
